Paul A. Salles, president and CEO of the Louisiana Hospital Association, released the following statement on Monday regarding the proposed healthcare budget cuts:

After hearing the Executive Budget for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 as presented today to the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the Louisiana Hospital Association and its member hospitals and health systems are deeply concerned about the effects of proposed healthcare cuts of this magnitude.

The budget cuts proposed under this worst-case scenario would be detrimental to the health of our residents and our economy in every region of the state. If these cuts materialize, they could lead to a drastic reduction of some hospital services and medical education in communities across Louisiana.

We understand that our elected leaders are facing difficult budget decisions, and we stand ready to work with them to protect access to medical services and to retain highly-skilled healthcare jobs in our recovering economy.
