Amerigroup hosts 'Diaper Day' at Valley Healthcare

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Amerigroup hosted an event for women Tuesday in Columbus.

Diaper Day was held at Valley Healthcare Women's Health on Ft. Benning Road.

Amerigroup partnered with Valley Healthcare to encourage women to get their health checked on a regular basis. Organizers say this is highly important for those expecting a child.

Free diapers were given away in efforts to push women to get prenatal care.

"We really want to encourage women to come and get prenatal care. One of the things that people aren't aware of is the low birth rate and infant mortality. The death rate in Muscogee County is elevated. So our patients really need to come in," says Valley Healthcare Doctor Kamesha Harbison.

Different resources and educational pamphlets were available on site to educate women on the pros of getting checked early.
