High Commission of India to Fiji donates $282,481 worth of medical consignment for children

A medical consignment for children valued at $282,481 has been handed over by the High Commission of India to Fiji, this contains medicine and injections for children under the essential Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) programme.

The medicine supplies for children were requested by the Fiji Government and were delivered as a grant to assist the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

The consignment includes Amoxycillin suspension, Trimethoprim suspension, Erythromycin suspension, Paracetamol Mixture, Zinc oxide cream, Econazole cream, Nystatin drops, Chloramphenicol Eye Drops, Chloramphenicol Ear Drops, Chloramphenicol Injection and Vitamin A injection.

High Commissioner P. S Karthigeyan says they have a strong focus in the health sector for Fiji, especially in times of need including the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the fight against rising HIV infections.

Karthigeyan says Super Specialty Hospital in Nasinu will be a major milestone to improve access to quality across the Pacific region.

Health Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says this directly addresses critical healthcare needs within the pediatric population which will play a pivotal role in enhancing the capacity of Fiji’s healthcare system to deliver quality care to vulnerable children.

Lalabalavu further says the medical supplies will be deployed judiciously and with the utmost care to benefit those in need across the nation.
