Political Bureau member and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz described as successful his visit to the Republic of Congo, highlighting "the hospitality and sincere affection" received by the authorities of that brotherly country. He affirmed that his stay in that African nation allowed him to consolidate economic, commercial and cooperation relations, and to raise them to the level of political relations.
Before his departure from the Maya-Maya International Airport, where he was accompanied by his counterpart, Anatole Collinet Makosso, the Cuban Head of Government, together with the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, held a special meeting with a representation of Cuban collaborators in that sector. He told them that "while the enemies of the Revolution try to discredit the work of Cuban doctors, you bring health to the world".
Those who today provide services in four regions of the Congo shared their experiences and the mission they carry out in close collaboration with national professionals, many of whom were trained in Cuba.
The Prime Minister then arrived in Ethiopia, in transit to the Republic of Namibia, where he will participate in the inauguration of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and in the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba.
In Addis Ababa, Marrero Cruz paid tribute to the Cuban and Ethiopian combatants who lost their lives on African soil. In front of the murals with the photographs and names, on bronze plaques, of the 163 internationalists from the Greater of the Antilles who fell here in the line of duty, the Head of Government laid floral offerings.
During the solemn ceremony, the Prime Minister reminded Fidel: "It is admirable how sons of our people were able to march to such a distant place and fight as if they had been fighting in their own homeland. That is proletarian internationalism!".
