No fewer than seven persons have died out of the 54 diarrhea patients in the four local government areas of Niger State.

The Executive Director, Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Yahaya Na’uzo, who confirmed the development, explained that the cases had increased from 43 patients to 54.

Giving a breakdown of the cases, he disclosed that Bida LG recorded four deaths out of 13 cases; Gbako LG recorded one death out of three cases, Lavum LG has one case of diarrhoea while Katcha Local Government Area recorded two deaths out of 10 cases.

He said, “Since the outbreak of diarrhoea in the state, we have lost seven lives and we are doing everything within our reach to stop it so that it won’t spread to other local governments.”

He said that the affected persons were taken to Bida General Hospital and Federal Medical Centre for treatment.

The director admonished people in the rural areas to be hygienic and to drink good water to avoid contracting the disease.

“Report to the nearest health centre within your area if you noticed changes in your body system so that adequate measures will be taken to stop it,” he advised.
