South Africa has received a huge injury boost ahead of their 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying fixture against Nigeria at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The Bafana Bafana welcome back Thulani Serero and Thamsanqa Mkhize on Tuesday after both players did not take part in the team’s first training session on Monday.

Serero who arrived in camp on Monday carrying a slight injury, trained on his own but joined the rest of the team on Tuesday just as defender Thamsanqa Mkhize who was also rested, played the entire 90 minutes for his club side, Cape Town City in their 3-1 home win over Black Leopards last weekend.

Providing update on Bafana Bafana, South Africa’s team doctor, Dr Thulani Ngwenya said that apart from goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams who had a minor injury and will be monitored in the next few days, the hosts have no new injury worries ahead of their clash with Gernot Rohr’s side.

“Otherwise there are no new injuries and I must say the day began very well,” Ngwenya told Supersport.

South Africa heads to the game after playing a 1-1 draw with Seychelles at home in their last match, while Nigeria heads to the game after defeating Libya 3-2.

Nigeria is on top of the group with nine points from four fixtures, while South Africa is in second place with eight points from the same number of games.
