HAVERHILL, MASS. (WHDH) - Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle while riding his bike in Haverhill on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to a reported crash involving a Buick Encore and a child on a bicycle in the area of 81 Farrwood Drive, according to Haverhill police.

The boy was taken by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

Video from Sky7 HD showed the crash scene roped off with yellow police tape and a green bicycle lodged under the front of the SUV.

Neighborhood resident Jan Mulford told 7NEWS that she could hear loud moaning in the street.

“You can actually hear the moaning from inside the house,” she said. “My husband said, I’m going to see if someone is out there that is hurt who needs help. By that time, all of the authorities were coming.”

Another resident told 7NEWS that the victim frequently rides his bike in the area.

An accident reconstruction team was called in to assist with the investigation.

The vehicle involved in the crash has since been towed away.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
