MUMBAI: The families of two senior citizens donated organs of their loved ones this week, saving the lives of four patients with organ failure. This took the city's cadaver donation count for the year to 72.
One of the donors was a 72-year-old man with a history of strokes. He was rushed to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle unconscious on November 4. "After two days' treatment, he was declared brain-dead due to irreversible damage to the brain caused by intracranial bleeding," said a hospital spokesperson.
One of the livers was transplanted into a 44-year-old man suffering from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

The second donor was a 67-year-old man, declared brain-dead at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on November 4. Hospital authorities said they could retrieve his liver and kidneys.
