MONTROSE, Minn. — A man was shot by Wright County Deputies on Monday afternoon as the officers tried to arrest him as he exited a Dollar General store in Montrose.
According to a post on the Wright County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, deputies tried to take a man into custody for outstanding warrants around 1 p.m. as he walked out of the store in the 600 block of Nelson Boulevard, just off Highway 12. The man reportedly refused to comply with commands from law enforcement and "less lethal measures were deployed," according to police.
The man continued to resist arrest, eventually pulling a gun, police said. A Wright County Deputy fired their gun, hitting the man. He was taken into custody and treated for his injury by deputies before being taken from the scene in an ambulance.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called in to investigate the shooting, which is standard practice for many departments to avoid a conflict of interest. Additional information on the incident is expected Tuesday.
