Georgia Harrison has issued an appeal for donations after her close friend suffered a spinal stroke.

The Love Island star, 29, told how content creator Louie Mills was left paralysed with the rare medical condition as she visited him in hospital.

Georgia shared a video of herself alongside Louie's hospital bed where he could be seen with tubes in his throat and nose.

A spinal stroke is a disruption in the blood supply to the spinal cord. They are quite uncommon and account for 1.25% of all strokes. Long-term effects include bowel and bladder problems, physical problems and pain.

The TV star explained Louie would need aftercare and 'modifications' to his home when he was released from hospital as she asked for donations.

She said: 'He's quite frankly not in a good place right now. Let me just tell you, Louis is one of the best friends ever.

'He's shown up for me in everything. He's one of the funniest, best boys I know and quite frankly we can't have him like this for much longer.

'He needs to get back on track. The best way we can do that is we've set up a GoFundMe.

'He's gonna need aftercare, he's gonna need modifications made to his home, when we do eventually get him home, and it's just one of those times where everyone across TikTok and everywhere just needs to come together to help this guy raise some money and help get Louis better.'

Georgia then shared a video of Louie in his hospital bed with the caption: 'Literally he went from normal to paralysed over night but he's still got his sense of humour and he's gonna push through this.

'Please even if you don't have the means to donate, just go check him out on TikTok, he's such a special soul and he deserves to get his life back for himself and for humanity because he's a gift.'

Georgia broke down in tears as she informed her followers of Louie's condition in a video she shared last week.

With tears streaming down her face, she said: 'I think one it just show much none of us appreciate our health and how you never know when your health could be taken away from you.

'So just don't be ungrateful for the smallest things in life and it shows that something like this could happen to anyone.

'From what I have seen he is going to have the opportunity to rehabilitate himself. It is just going to be a journey getting to that point.

'But I just want to send so much love out to Louie and let him know that I am going to come up and see him what I can and let his mum know that anything I can do. Oh its really upset me.

'I can't even tell you anything I can do to help support him, to help raise money for him, to help him back to a place where he feels himself again.

'I will and everyone should just go over to his page and give him a follow and make sure they are supporting the family and him throughout his journey because he just doesn't deserve it.

'He is just brilliant and I've gutted to see him in such a vulnerable state.'

What is a spinal stroke?

A spinal stroke is a disruption in the blood supply to the spinal cord.  A disruption in the blood supply can cause injury or damage to tissues and can block nerve impulses travelling along the spinal cord.

Spinal strokes are most common in the anterior spinal artery.

Most spinal strokes are caused by blockages  - usually blood clots - in the blood supply. Some spinal strokes are caused by bleeds.

Causes:

Most spinal strokes are caused by a thickening or narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the spinal cord.

Our arteries tend to harden, narrow and weaken as we get older however there are some groups of people who are at an increased risk.

Increased risk comes with:

high blood pressure

high cholesterol

heart disease

diabetes

smoking

High alcohol intake

Some spinal strokes (ischaemic) are caused by a blood clot blocking one of the arteries supplying the spinal cord.

Some spinal strokes (haemorrhagic) are caused by one of the blood vessels supplying the spinal cord bursting and causing a bleed.

Other less common causes of spinal strokes include abnormally tangled blood vessels called arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), benign blood vessel tumours called haemangiomas, spinal tuberculosis, spinal chordoma, spinal cord compression, cauda equina syndrome (CES) and secondary spinal tumours. There is also an increased risk of spinal stroke after abdominal surgery.
