RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Beginning Thursday, January 16, 2025, a television/social media commercial bringing awareness to affordable health insurance will be taken down.

That’s because the deadline to sign up for health insurance through Health Link is tomorrow night.

But officials with the exchange believe the one simple ad helped make this year’s enrollment, a record breaker.“So far this year we have more than 106,000 health enrollees,” says Katie Charleson with Nevada Health Link. “Which is a record high right now, which we have a couple more days of open enrollment historically we know people like to wait until the last minute.”Which means the number of enrollees is only expected to go higher.

Other Nevadans who were dropped from Medicaid after COVID because they were no longer eligible may have opted for coverage through Health Link. That may account for the record numbers as well.

But midnight Wednesday January 15, 2025, is the deadline to sign up for health insurance through the state exchange.

This might be the last year subsidies through the “American Recovery Act” will be available to enrollees. “A family of four in Washoe County making $80,000 dollars a year, which is the average in Washoe County, could be paying as low as zero dollars a month for a bronze plan.” Which is great for a safety net which we talked about. Silver is the middle of the road about $240 dollars a month. So, those subsidies brought it down for a lot of people. ”For those who want to keep their current plan, nothing needs to be done. The plan will simply roll over for 2025.

If this is the first time to enroll, or it’s been a couple of years since health insurance was obtained through Health Link, there is a website and look for a plan.

Confused? Insurance can be bewildering. There is free help through a broker or navigator who can find those subsidies and the most affordable and appropriate plan.

Internal question to ask include:How often do I go to a doctor’s office or medical lab? Are routine health care checkups or tests needed? Is there a chronic health problem like diabetes or COPD?

Answers will determine a bronze, silver or gold plan.

This time of year, there are many out of state health insurances which will claim they are Nevada Health Link. They are not. They may not cover essential health benefits. Nevada Health Link will not call or ask for personal information to give a quote.

It’s up to the potential enrollee to make initial contact.
