The National Medical Supplies Agency NMSA, located at Murray Town Road, Freetown, has formally started its first-quarter nationwide distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for 2025, with the goal of assisting patients fighting HIV, Tuberculosis, TB, and Malaria throughout the country.

This distribution operation, which is part of the NMSA’s quarterly program, will distribute critical pharmaceuticals and supplies to 24 government hospitals, private hospitals, key population, and 16 district medical stores. These supplies will then be distributed to around 1,500 Peripheral Health Units, PHUs, across the country, providing community-level healthcare coverage.

The medical supplies, worth roughly $3 million, are sponsored by the Global Fund’s GC 7 grant and will support the Ministry of Health’s present initiatives to address AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The NMSA, which is in charge of administering drug distribution across Sierra Leone, conducts four main quarterly distributions every year. This batch is projected to meet the requirements of the designated facilities over the following four months.

Jatu Abdulai, NMSA’s Managing Director, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to enhancing health-care delivery and ensuring that critical medical supplies reach people in need.

“Charged with the responsibilities of procuring, warehousing and distribution of drugs and medical supplies, the National Medical Supplies Agency, NMSA, embarks on four quarterly distributions of drugs and medical supplies yearly, as part of government’s drive to improved health service delivery across the country.” She said.

She also stated that the medical supplies not for sale and it should not be sold to patients, if anyone is caught selling the drugs, the law will hold them accountable.

“Please note that these commodities are NOT for sale.” She said. “The law will heavily fall on anyone who is found selling these drugs and medical supplies.”
