Where to get milkshakes on the Treasure Coast
Milkshakes have been a fixture of American youth since their rise in popularity when they started being sold in diners and soda shops, which were a mix between a drug store and ice cream parlor.
Here are some restaurants that offer milkshakes, one in each Treasure Coast city where applicable, including some that are less-obvious choices than your tried-and-true favorite.
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
Sebastian Sandwich Shack, Sebastian
The Sebastian Sandwich Shack is a family-owned and operated restaurant that makes its soups, salads, daily specials and desserts on-site. It has an eccentric, beachy atmosphere and is known for its specialty sandwiches, subs, Philly cheesesteaks and paninis. It also features a milkshake on the drink menu with flavors including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Oreo, black and white, maple bacon, chocolate peanut butter, banana and brownie.

Quik Snak, Vero Beach
The family-friendly eatery owned by Bill and Stewart Marshall is known for its hamburgers, french fries and milkshakes. It originally opened in 1961 and featured an iconic automatic char-boiler for its burgers, but closed in 2008 when the longtime owner retired. After 16 years, the couple revived the restaurant, where Bill started his restaurant career when he attended Vero Beach High School. He also has worked at Vero Prime, Michael's Table, The Tides and Avanzare, where he met his wife when he was the manager and she was a server. It is next to Vero Beach High School's Citrus Bowl football field, where Heavenly Wings, Wes' Backyard BBQ & Grill and Dagwood's Deli & Sub Shop all once were. Milkshake flavors include vanilla, chocolate, orange, strawberry, churro and peanut butter.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY
Al's Red Barn Grill
This popular roadside restaurant reopened in January after being damaged by a Hurricane Milton tornado. Al's Family Farms, whose packinghouse is over 100 years old, has sold local citrus since 1977, when it was started by Al and Jeanne Schorner. Since Al Schorner died in 1987, it's been run by his son, Jeff Schorner, and Jeff's son, Matt Schorner. The breakfast and lunch restaurant adjacent to the Big Red Barn produce market is known for its burgers and authentic Mexican food. Its Sunshine Shake has hand-dipped ice cream, orange sherbet and fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Island Burger and Shake, Fort Pierce
The rock-and-roll themed restaurant is near Jetty Park at the Fort Pierce Inlet in the former location of Taco Dive. It was opened in 2024 by Taylor Shull, who also owns Island Pig & Fish, and serves smash burgers and malt shakes. Flavors include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and a specialty shake.

We Be Poppin, Lakewood Park
The popular popcorn, fudge and ice cream shop owned by Tim White and Blenda Price originally opened on U.S. 1 at Avenue J in Fort Pierce in 2020 and then moved to the Taylor Creek Commons strip plaza. It since has expanded with locations in Lakewood Park and Sanford. It offers over 34 flavors of ice cream, making for a wide array of milkshake options.

Lily's Market Cafeteria, Port St. Lucie
Lily's Market is in the Morningside Shoppes plaza and serves Cuban fare. It has tables and a small bar for guests with a relaxing Cuban-themed atmosphere. Milkshake flavors include strawberry, chocolate, malt, trigo (a Cuban wheat cereal shake), guanabana (soursop), maracuja (passion fruit), mango and papaya.

Strawberry's Deli & Ice Cream, Jensen Beach
Strawberry's Deli and Ice Cream is in the Hutchinson Island Shops plaza, which also houses The Magic Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill, on A1A. It offers milkshakes, thick shakes and malt shakes with ice cream flavors including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, cookie dough, butter pecan, coffee, rocky road and sea salt caramel. It also serves hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches and light breakfast items.

Burger Daddy, Stuart
Burger Daddy is a chef-driven smash burger concept that pairs its burgers with handcrafted milkshakes and fries owned by Ron Kerr, who studied at the New England Culinary Institute and lives in Hobe Sound. Kerr has worked at restaurants in New York, Miami, Islamorada, Naples and Palm Beach. He also opened South Fork Kitchen & Bar in Stuart in 2018. Burger Daddy offers vegan options such as dairy-free milkshakes and veggie burgers. Milkshake flavors include chocolate, vanilla, cookies n' cream, Nutella, dairy-free chocolate and soft serve vanilla.

District Table & Bar was opened in the historic fishing village of Port Salerno by Jason and Mirka Stocks in 2013 and is a seasonally driven restaurant with Southern roots. Stocks uses local ingredients based on the availability of local farmers.

Shark Shack Sweets, Palm City
The tropical-themed ice cream shop offers a wide array of frozen treats with classic and unique creations. Its Palm City location opened in 2019, followed by a Port St. Lucie shop in 2023. Milkshake flavors include vanilla, chocolate, brown butter bourbon truffle, peanut butter cup, Key lime pie, moose tracks, cookie dough, birthday cake, non-dairy cookies and crumbles and non-dairy loaded chocolate. Guests can ask for a drizzle of chocolate, caramel or butterscotch.

Sweetie's Ice Cream & More
The mom and pop ice cream parlor offers ice cream, real shakes, signature sundaes, banana splits and over 15 toppings. It features 27 flavors of local artisan-made ice cream from the Ice Cream Club and six flavors of Hershey's. The Ice Cream Club began in 1982 in Boynton Beach and distributes its product to Florida and the Southeast, Northeast and Midwest. It offers malts and shakes made from your choice of ice cream with the option to add whipped cream for an additional cost. Ice cream flavors include the classics plus cappuccino crunch, elephant ears, butterscotch bomb, special praline and stellar coffee.
