Urbex adventures: Inside Hungary’s abandoned hospitals and hotels

Hungary has become a paradise for urbex enthusiasts seeking forgotten hotels, eerie hospitals, and abandoned structures with haunting pasts. Here are some fascinating discoveries!

Urbex is becoming more and more popular in Hungary

Urbex, or urban exploration, has become an increasingly popular hobby in Hungary, attracting adventurers keen to explore abandoned buildings and forgotten locations. However, this exciting activity comes with significant risks. Many of these structures have been left to decay for years, making them structurally unstable. One wrong step on a rotting staircase could lead to serious injury. Additionally, these locations are not always deserted; explorers may encounter squatters, vandals, or other unexpected visitors. Despite the risks, urbex enthusiasts continue to uncover eerie, time-frozen spaces filled with remnants of the past, offering a glimpse into places long forgotten by society.

Hotels left behind for eternity

Promotions also notes that Hungary has increasingly become a hotspot for urbex enthusiasts, offering a wealth of abandoned buildings that once played vital roles in the country’s history. One such site is the former SZOT holiday resort in Budapest, a once-grand complex that now stands as a haunting reminder of the past.

Built during the Kádár era, SZOT resorts provided affordable holidays for working-class families, with the state covering a significant portion of the costs. Today, the deserted Budapest SZOT building, often referred to as a “skeleton hotel,” serves as a nostalgic yet spooky symbol of a bygone era. A resurfaced urbex video captures the decaying structure, highlighting how time and neglect have transformed this once-bustling retreat into a silent, forgotten relic.

Another luxurious hotel never got the chance to shine. Perched on a hillside, an unfinished luxury hotel has become a fascinating urban exploration site after construction was abandoned due to the 2008 financial crisis. Despite multiple ownership changes and proposals to complete the project, the skeletal structure remains in limbo, standing as a silent monument to unfulfilled ambitions.

Creepy hospital

A recent urbex video has captured the eerie atmosphere of an abandoned hospital in Budapest, complete with a hidden mortuary. The building, abandoned since 2006, still contains hospital beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment, adding to its haunting allure. Viewers were particularly disturbed by a mysteriously moving fan despite the lack of electricity and an ominous walled-up passageway with an unknown purpose. One of the most chilling discoveries was a suspicious object left on a table, which some believe to be a human organ.
