Three Alabama cities ranked as most obese in the U.S. according to a Wallethub study
Statistics show that Americans are among the most overweight people globally, with 42% of U.S. adults being obese, according to a WalletHub study.
WalletHub examined 100 of the largest U.S. cities to find those with the highest obesity rates.
By evaluating 19 weight-related factors, WalletHub ranked the most overweight and obese cities in the U.S.
WalletHub ranked three Alabama cities in its recent study, two of which made the top 10 overall, and one has the second-highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure.
What Alabama cities made Wallethub's list and where do they rank?
Mobile ranked fourth on the list, Birmingham came in tenth and Huntsville placed 32nd on the list.
Huntsville scored 76.22 out of 100, ranking 30th for obesity and overweight, 90th for health consequences and 21st for food and fitness.
A bottom 10 ranking in health consequences indicates that Huntsville has low rates of high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity-related deaths.
Birmingham adults have the second-highest percentage of high blood pressure cases
Unlike Huntsville, Birmingham faces significant health issues, with the second-highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure.
Ranked 10th with a score of 81.21, they ranked 5th in the food and fitness category. This means that adults in Birmingham have limited access to healthy foods, consume low amounts of fruits and vegetables or are physically inactive, as the city does not promote friendliness and an active lifestyle.
In another WalletHub study, Birmingham ranked 89 out of 100 for cities with an active lifestyle.
