Analysts scored cities in three categories: emotional and physical well-being, income and employment and community and environment.
Four Nevada cities made the list, but fell somewhat low on the overall rankings.

How did WalletHub determine Reno's ranking?
Reno was the second-happiest city in Nevada but landed in the lower half nationally.
It scored highest in income and employment (44th) but struggled in emotional well-being (103rd) and community and environment (116th). WalletHub prioritized factors like depression rates, mental health, and food insecurity in its emotional well-being category.
The community and environment score emphasized leisure time, separation and divorce rates, hate crime incidents, and residents’ satisfaction with their city. Reno excelled in income and employment, boosted by factors such as income growth, job satisfaction and low bankruptcy rates.
WalletHub used data from multiple sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data is as of Jan. 2.

Is Reno a happy place to live?
Though WalletHub ranked Nevada's cities lower in its happiness ranking, other outlets have named Reno as one of the happiest places to live.
In December, Outside magazine named Reno the top choice in its list of the 15 happiest places to live in the U.S., based on cost of living and proximity to parks, as well as walkability and bikeability.
Reno is also recognized for its outdoor recreation scene, craft breweries and vibrant arts scene.
