I'm A Celebrity star shows off hair transplant live on air after medication struggle
West End star and former I'm A Celebrity contestant Darren Day opened up about his hair transplant on Lorraine today, revealing that certain medication caused him to lose hair
I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star Darren Day has shown off his hair transplant results live on ITV's Lorraine after medication caused him to lose hair. The 56-year-old, who is best known for his roles on the West End and for playing Danny Houston on Hollyoaks, shared that he suffered with hair loss after taking certain medication for his mental health struggles.
On the ITV show, Lorraine said: "You mentioned that you had to wear a wig in Joseph [and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat]. You did get the transplant. It looks great." Darren replied: "I was doing alright and then it was one of the meds I was on. It was one of the mental health meds.
"I stopped taking them, so you don't lose any more hair but the hair you've lost doesn't come back so I got the transplant done. My mate Jake Quickenden helped me with it, set me up with the clinic he went to."
Lifting up his hair to show his hairline to the camera, Darren said: "They were like motorways, pathways and now I'm happy."
Darren opened up about his mental health struggles back in 2020, revealing that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder type two and borderline personality disorder.
In 2021, he revealed that he was sleeping in a friend's car for five months after an addiction to cocaine left him homeless.
“I was homeless. I slept in a friend’s car in north London," he said. "I would park up in this car park in Hampstead until about November, when it started to get too cold. I had no sleeping bag. I just slept under some coats. All my possessions were in that car and I was still using drugs."
He was declared bankrupt in 2005 - however, the actor is now in a much better place, having recently celebrated his daughter Madison's 18th birthday.
Writing on Instagram in October, Darren said: "I'm the luckiest man on the planet cos I'm the Dad of this perfect person. This beautiful young lady @maddyxdayy. Happy 18th birthday little princess. I can't wait to see you. You make me proud every moment of every day. I love you with every ounce of my soul."
Darren recently appeared on TV back in 2017, taking on the role of Will Morgan in Stella. However, he is best known for competing on Celebrity Big Brother's 2016 series and the very first series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! back in 2002.
