Target shoppers warned to not eat common dinner essential sold in 21 states due to mystery ‘foreign object’

CONTAMINATED green beans were recalled in multiple states as they may have been polluted with a foreign object.
Nearly 200,000 cans of the product were found to have been compromised.
Good & Gather Cut Green Beans, sold under Target's flagship brand, were recalled in 21 states, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
All cans of the green beans marked "Best if Used By October 28, 2026" are being recalled.
A press release was not issued for the recall.
The states affected by the recall are Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

197,808 cans were recalled on February 12.
The recall was given a Class II distinction - the second highest threat level.
Class II Recalls mean that the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, according to the FDA.
The FDA's announcement did not specify what type of foreign object may have caused the recall.

However, such contaminants can generally be categorized into two types.
Food contamination often stems from raw materials that were not removed.
Another potential cause for a recall is external debris, including plastic fragments, stones, or insects.
These foreign contaminants occasionally enter the food during the manufacturing process.
Foreign objects in food products may cause choking, oral injuries, and infections.
Target's Good & Gather brand sources its green beans from California-based Del Monte Foods.
The company has not provided consumers with guidance on what to do if they have cans from the recalled batch.
Both retailers and manufacturers generally advise customers to either discard the affected products, or return them for a refund.
At the time of reporting, no additional details have been released.
