Elaine Crowley is returning to her first love of acting – and has landed a role in her first feature film, due to film later this year.

The TV presenter has been a staple on our screens since joining TV3, now Virgin Media, in 2000.

And while she’s a total natural on screen, a career in presenting and producing wasn’t always on the cards for the Cork native.

Elaine told RSVP Magazine: “I had my eye on the screen but not necessarily the small screen. From the age of nine I wanted to be an actor, that was my dream, I did all the drama exams but my dad wasn’t too keen on me doing it in college so I did a degree in film and broadcasting so it was a cunning plan, I was going to cast myself in movies I directed.

“But then I got working in radio and got bitten by the radio bug and then ended up in broadcasting. But acting was my first love and I still practise my Oscar speech in the mirror at home.”

After a difficult few years for her personally, Elaine wants to seize any opportunity she can.

And this summer, she will return to acting.

The Ireland AM host told us: “At this point in my life, you never know what the future is going to bring, the world is so chaotic at the moment. I feel like we’re all in some dystopian nightmare with what’s going on in the States, the war in the Ukraine, Palestine.

“I am not putting off anything I want to do anymore and I will never do it again. So I have been cast in a feature film, would you believe?

“It is called Hitched and it is based on a book by Caroline Grace Cassidy called Bride Squad . It is not a main part or anything, but I will be speaking in it, I am going to be a Guard from Cork.”

After wowing audiences on Dancing With The Stars, having previously turned it down, Elaine is ready to take on a new challenge.

“I think [filming starts] next summer or within the next year, the dates aren’t locked down yet,” she added.

“Look, I could do it and it might be like my dancing, adequate, or I might excel in it this time. I am looking forward to it.”

Aside from trying out new things, Elaine is very happy with her job on Ireland AM. The early mornings are tough, but she knows how lucky she is to inform and entertain audiences at home.

She said: “I’m not a morning person. Let’s call a spade a spade. No one wants to get up at 4.30am in the morning, but I do love my job. I am in a very privileged position.

“Who else gets to interview so many of their heroes for a living? Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I interviewed Mary Robinson a few months ago, that was incredible.

“It is a national institution and I get to work with Martin King who is a national treasure.”
