For Jimmy Dunne, Ireland’s newest international footballer, there were tears of joy when the QPR man made his senior Ireland debut in Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to Bulgaria, having suffered the loss of his father in recent months.

In the lead-up to the game, Dunne had spoken of the impact of losing his father, Eamonn, to cancer in December and his family were in Lansdowne Road on Sunday to witness his debut.
