Ex-Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian has said she wants to work more in Ireland after moving to Cork – as she announces she is now cancer free.

Ali, who is best known for her roles as Becca Dean in Hollyoaks, Sally Armstrong in The Bill and Becky Clarke in Doctors, was diagnosed with breast cancer after she discovered a lump while breastfeeding her daughter Izzy.

A few days later, she was told that she had stage 2 hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.

She said: "It absolutely floored me. Your mind just goes blank and everything goes a million miles an hour, all at the same time."

She started a treatment plan which included chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiotherapy, and recently shared the news on her Instagram page that she is now cancer free.

"It's taken me a minute to be able to say this out loud, but I've now finished my active cancer treatment and have moved into my preventative treatment.

"I'm so elated and relieved to say I am now cancer free," she told the RTE Guide.

The 43-year-old hopes to do some acting work in Ireland after she and her partner moved to west Cork last year.

"Honestly, I can't wait to set foot on a set again. That's my happy place. I'd love to explore the possibility of working more in Ireland because it would be an absolute joy.

"There's so many exciting things going on here - independent films and lots of creativity and people doing really good work," she added.
