VEHARI - On the occasion of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the Health Department and Mercy Corps organised an awareness seminar in Vehari district on Monday. The seminar focused on TB prevention, timely diagnosis, treatment, and preventive measures.
CEO Health Dr Fahad Waheed chaired the seminar and highlighted that Pakistan ranked fifth globally in terms of TB patients. However, the government provides free facilities and medicines for TB treatment.
Dr Waheed emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis and proper treatment for complete TB recovery. He added that all rural health centers, tehsil headquarters hospitals, and district headquarters hospitals in Vehari offer TB diagnosis and treatment facilities.
Dr Muhammad Fazal, District Headquarter Officer, stated that TB is a contagious disease that can spread through coughing. He stressed the importance of TB patients wearing masks to protect themselves and others, District Pulmonologist Dr Tahir Jilani provided information on TB types, treatment methods, and necessary precautions. He assured that TB is a curable disease if treated promptly and completely. The seminar concluded with an awareness walk, where participants pledged to spread awareness about TB. The event was attended by various health officials and medical experts, including Dr Muhammad Fazal, Dr Tahir Jilani, Dr Muhammad Umar Kamran, Dr Hafiz Numan, and Omar Draz from Mercy Corps.
