TORRINGTON – Susan B. Anthony Project (SBAP) in Torrington has received a $5,000 grant award from the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut, in support of the agency’s Outreach and Prevention Education Program.

SBAP provides domestic and sexual violence prevention programming to 18 towns and two cities in northwest Connecticut. Age- and developmentally-appropriate programs are presented to students in grades pre-K through 12 in area schools and camps, as well as to adult community members, including professional trainings and educational presentations to civic groups, businesses, religious groups, and any other organization wishing to partner with SBAP in the prevention of interpersonal violence.

In addition to educational programming in schools and throughout the community, SBAP hosts regular outreach and awareness events, with the aim of preventing future occurrences of violence and informing community members about the services SBAP provides to victims and survivors, should any participants need assistance now or in the future.

Founded in 1983, Susan B. Anthony Project promotes safety, healing and growth for all survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, and advocates for the autonomy of women and the end of interpersonal violence. SBAP provides 24/7/365 crisis and support services, as well as education and prevention programs free of charge to residents of northwest Connecticut, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional living services, court and medical advocacy, individual counseling, and support groups.
