
The U.S. needs millions of eggs. Here’s why it shouldn’t look to Canada for help

The U.S. is facing a severe egg shortage due to avian influenza, which has wiped out millions of egg-laying hens and driven prices to record highs.
While the U.S. is looking to international suppliers, including Turkey, Canada’s supply management system and smaller egg industry make it unlikely to fill the gap.
Despite the crisis, Canada continues to prioritize domestic production, exporting only processed egg products while importing shell eggs from the U.S.
