The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has updated the risk level for ground coffee products recalled this month.
The FDA updated its health classification risk level this week for Coffee Roasters Our Family Traverse City Cherry Artificially Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee. The products are distributed by the Spartannash Company.
The recall was initiated for more than 4,000 bags of the coffee grounds for mislabeling. A portion of these products were mislabeled as decaffeinate.
The products, which were sold in 12-ounce bags, have a UPC code 0 70253 11080 1 and an expiration date of Aug. 3, 2025.
They were distributed to distribution centers and retail stores in several states, including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The FDA updated the classification of this recall to a Class II, which is a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
Consumers who may have purchased these recalled cans were notified by the company.
“Our top priority is the safety of our consumers. We issued the recall on March 13 immediately after being notified by our supplier that the product had been mislabeled. All recalled product was already removed from store shelves and destroyed prior to the FDA’s classification of the recall earlier this week,” stated a SpartanNash spokesperson on Saturday, March 29.
The recall remains ongoing, according to the FDA report.
