PHOENIX Ariz. (KVOA) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has terminated multiple federal grants, impacting Arizona's public health efforts as of March 24, 2025. The Arizona Department of Health Services received the notice on March 25, 2025, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The termination affects significant funding, totaling approximately $190 million, including the COVID-19 Health Disparities Grant and several COVID-related sub grants. These funds were intended for projects across Arizona, involving all 15 county health departments and several Tribal health departments.

These grants were crucial for initiatives aimed at detecting and controlling infectious diseases, a need underscored by the COVID-19 pandemic. The now-halted projects included the development of the statewide disease case surveillance system, essential for monitoring disease cases.

ADHS is actively collaborating with partners to address the changes and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
