“Hajj dormitories across Indonesia have been fully prepared for use following health inspections,” said Hilman Latief, the ministry’s Director General of Hajj and Umrah, during a meeting with Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Thursday.
He noted that the government has ensured all facilities are equipped to provide adequate meals and special care for elderly pilgrims and people with disabilities.
“To improve service quality, we have also introduced digital services in the dormitories,” Latief added, noting that a one-stop system has been developed to streamline access to various dormitory services.
Indonesia is expected to send a total of 221,000 pilgrims this Hajj season. Of that number, 208,514 pilgrims under the regular Hajj quota have completed their travel payments.
After completing preparatory activities at the dormitories, regular pilgrims will begin departing for Saudi Arabia from their designated embarkation points starting May 2.
In addition, 4,420 Hajj officers will be deployed to assist pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage. This includes an extra 2,210 officers granted as an additional quota by the Saudi Arabian government.
To safeguard the health of pilgrims, the Hajj Health Center of the Ministry of Health has also prepared polio vaccines for both pilgrims and officers.
In a statement from Jakarta, center head Liliek Marhaendro Susilo explained that this initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s requirement for meningococcal vaccination for all foreigners participating in Hajj or Umrah.
“This rule applies to countries that have reported polio cases in the past year,” he said.
