ANNUAL jabs may become a thing of the past with a team of Perth researchers developing a single vaccine that protects for life.

Touted as a groundbreaking development in medical research, the Human Vaccines Project, hopes to transform the way in which disease prevention is tackled - especially in young children.

Research is focusing on the development of vaccines and immunotherapy for major diseases, including different strains of meningococcal and influenza.

Perth will be the only hub for the Project outside North America, and the work done here will be a collaboration between Telethon Kids Institute and Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Human Vaccines Project follows on from the groundbreaking human genome project and lot of the credit for luring the program to WA is being given to the new facilities at Perth Children's Hospital.
