Pawssum mobile veterinarians latest on Uber bandwagon

Sophie ChirgwinThe Sunday Mail (Qld)

NERVOUS pets can have treatments and check-ups from home thanks to a new “Uber for vets” style business in Brisbane.

The app-based vet service Pawssum was founded by Guy Sharabi and Barry Green in Sydney in 2016, and has since moved to Brisbane, designed to provide pet owners with the convenience of booking a vet online for a home visit.

“For many cats, dogs, and other pets, getting into the car when they’re not feeling well — or even when they’re OK and just heading to a vet for a regular check-up — can be unpleasant and create unnecessary stress for them and their owner; this takes away that issue as we come to your door,” Mr Sharabi said.

“With the fast pace of modern life or because of their own ill-health, disability or lack of transport, getting to a vet can be a struggle for many owners, and being at home means your pet is more relaxed.”

Pawssum vets can provide urgent medical check-ups, vaccinations, dental, heart, eye and ear checks; they can take blood and lump samples, provide dog training and telephone or video chat check-ups.

The vets can also perform at-home euthanasia to make saying goodbye to furry friends more peaceful in the comfort of their own home.

“There’s probably nothing quite as distressing as traipsing to the vet when your pet is at the end of their life – for everyone – so that’s another painful experience that can be avoided,” Mr Sharabi said.

“This is changing the landscape for local pet owners.”
