Point Family Dentistry now offering Patients OraVerse, which will return you to normal ...

Bloomington, MN (MMD Newswire) March 24, 2009 -- Point Family Dentistry, Bloomington, MN, is proud to annouce that Oraverse will be available to patients in March 2009. The reversal agent is given at the end of your appointment, and will be beneficial to patients undergoing routine procedures under local anesthesia. It is given in a 1:1 ratio, so if you receive two doses of anesthetic, you will need two doses of Oraverse. Currently, OraVerse is not covered by dental insurance, and would be considered an out of pocket service. Please discuss the fees with your dental provider, and we will offer a sliding fee scale for patients requiring multiple doses. Sometimes, long acting local anesthetics are given following more involved surgical procedures, to allow for pain control after surgery, and this would not be an indicated use in those circumstances.

Novalar Pharmaceuticals recently released its new product, OraVerse, the first and only local dental anesthesia reversal agent, which allows the dentist to bring patients back to normal sensation and function in approximately half the time, which is normally 3-5 hours. This is especially benefical for patients who work in the public eye or need to be back to normal more quickly, or for younger patients that are at risk for injury to their lips while their anesthetic is wearing off. It is also beneficial for special needs patients, that unknowingly can bite or damage their own lips while the anesthesia is wearing off. OraVerse, or phentoamine mesylate, is a vasodilator that casues the blood flow to the affected area to increase, has been used for other medical indications since 1952.

It has been proven safe for adults and children aged 6 and older weighing 33lbs or more. It is given easily follwing your dental procedure while you are still numb, and will allow you to speak, smile and drink normally in about half the time.
