TruLab relocates to RTP, plans to hire 100 over two years

TruLab, a provider of technology for overseeing drug clinical trials, has relocated to new offices in Research Triangle Park (RTP) to support its rapid growth and development.

The company has signed a two-year lease for 10,000 square feet of space in Frontier RTP, the research park’s coworking and office campus.

"This move marks a significant milestone in our journey to drive growth and achieve our strategic goals,” said Scott Ogle, chief executive officer of TruLab. “Frontier RTP's emphasis on the life sciences community and innovative thinking aligns perfectly with our vision, and we are excited to witness the opportunities this relocation will bring."

The company’s new headquarters, located at 700 Park Offices Drive, provides flexible office space to support technology development, advance research, streamline operations and accommodate a growing team, the company said in a news release.  

“We plan on hiring another 100 over the next couple of years,” David Chung, chief operating officer, told the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. “We've had triple-digit (100+%) revenue growth each year for the last four years and are on track to hit that again this year,” Chung said.

A collaborative environment

TruLab has plenty of company on the Frontier RTP campus, which hosts more than one-third of RTP’s nearly 400 companies. The close proximity of so many tenants provides a collaborative office environment and access to a diverse community of life science companies, research institutions and start-up companies.

The campus is also close to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which makes it easy to host customers, partners and remote-staff visits, Chung said.

Carolyn Coia, vice president of real estate for Research Triangle Foundation, the non-profit manager of RTP, said TruLab's approach to clinical trial technologies and commitment to advancing scientific research make them an excellent fit for RTP and and the Frontier RTP community.

Frontier RTP is located in Hub RTP, the research park’s developing “downtown” destination. At full build-out, the $2 billion mixed-use development will be a central, walkable urban district including up to 1 million square feet of office and life sciences, 1,200 multifamily residential units, 250 hotel rooms and more. The 100-acre project includes the Frontier RTP startup community and the shipping container food hall and venue, Boxyard RTP.

Ensuring data integrity for clinical trials

TruLab, founded in 2018, was previously located in downtown Durham at One City Center before it moved to RTP on June 1. The company also has a software-development presence in California and a European office based in London.  

TruLab’s clients include four major pharmaceutical companies and numerous biotech organizations globally. The company’s technology helps these clients reduce the risk of delays, improve patient retention and ensure protocol compliance by providing real-time technology for clinical trial oversight.

“Even today, clinical sites rely on handwritten tubes and forms, with manual data entry into web portals,” the company’s website says. “This creates a ripe environment for missing and illegible data, with transcription errors.”

TruLab’s mobile technology ensures a biological sample’s chain of custody and data integrity by capturing source data electronically at the patient bedside.

“Our mission is to be the world leader in biological sample tracking, advancing research and development of new medical therapies,” the website says. “We do it by replacing Sharpies on tubes and burdensome paper processes. We may not be developing life-saving drugs but we’re empowering the companies that are.”

Earlier this year TruLab announced partnerships with Durham-based Marken, the clinical trial logistics unit of UPS Healthcare, and Atlanta-based Florence Healthcare, a provider of electronic file technology for clinical sites, to offer more comprehensive services.
